Week 2 Monday

Today we had a lectorial about semiotics. Semiotic is the study signs, and offers us the explanations of how we interpret images.

There are three key elements to semiotic, 1. Icons, 2. Index, 3. Symbol.

Icons are the Literal interpretation of an object or thing. It can be either diagrammatic or illustrative.
Index is the association and representation, they have a direct link between them.
Symbols are arbitery, there is no logical meaning between the subject.

After that we went back to our classes. And had to make a visual matrix.
I found it a bit difficult because I had just recently changed my idea from being lookout points in different areas, to now being scenic drives.

My initial lookout areas were the Wainui lookout at the top of the hill, which showed the whole of Wellington, and the Hutt Valley. The lookout at the top of the Rimatakas and the top of brooklyn suburb by the wind turbine.

I had gone on  drive looking out for other points to see the cityscape other than wainui, but then i saw that wellington has many beautiful places and only one lookout into different areas would be great.

So hence I changed my idea to Scenic Drives.
Each drive shows a different side to the wellington region.

1. Wainui Coast, a wild untameable coast line.
2. A suburban/bush like drive through the Mangaraki, Belmont, Normandale Suburbs.
3. Wellington City centre, A busy crazy awkward drive through a bustling city scape.
